- 2 tbsp orange zest (from fresh oranges)
- 1 cup fresh orange juice (or store-bought)
- ½ cup buttermilk (or whole milk)
For the Orange Cream Filling:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp orange juice
For the Orange Glaze (Optional):
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp orange juice
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Preheat & Prepare Pan
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or a 9×13-inch baking pan.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. Cream Butter & Sugar
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
- Stir in vanilla extract and orange zest.
4. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients
- Gradually add the dry mixture, alternating with orange juice and buttermilk.
- Mix until just combined (don’t overmix!).
5. Bake the Cake
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before frosting.
6. Make the Orange Cream Filling
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, followed by vanilla extract and orange juice.
- Spread the filling between the cake layers.
7. Drizzle with Orange Glaze (Optional but Recommended!)
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle over the frosted cake for a glossy finish!
