Description
Skip the store-bought and whip up a batch of this fresh, homemade margarita mix. Perfect for creating mocktails or margaritas, this mix is full of tangy lime flavor with just the right amount of sweetness.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh lime juice (about 6–8 limes)
- ½ cup fresh lemon juice (about 3–4 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- Optional: Zest from 1 lime for extra zing
Instructions
-
Make the simple syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. -
Juice the citrus:
While the syrup cools, juice your limes and lemons. For extra flavor, zest one of the limes and set it aside. -
Mix it all together:
In a pitcher or jar, combine the cooled simple syrup, lime juice, lemon juice, and lime zest (if using). Stir well to combine. -
Chill and store:
Transfer the mix to a sealed container and refrigerate for at least an hour to let the flavors meld. It can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
How to Use
- Mocktail Margarita: Mix 2 parts margarita mix with sparkling water over ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.
- Classic Margarita: Combine 2 parts mix with 1 part tequila and ½ part triple sec over ice. Shake well and serve in a salt-rimmed glass.
Notes
- Adjust the Sweetness: Prefer it less sweet? Use ¾ cup sugar instead of 1 cup.
- Make It Fancy: Add a splash of orange juice or grapefruit juice for a unique twist.
- Batch It Up: Double or triple the recipe for parties or gatherings!
